Stolen Sara

Sara Forbes Bonetta was a West African who was orphaned in inter-tribal warfare at the age of 8. She was then captured by slave traders and intended as a human sacrifice until she was rescued by Captain Forbes of the Royal Navy who convinced King Ghezo of Dahomey to give her to Queen Victoria. Saying she would be a present from the King of Blacks to the Queen of Whites. He named her Sara Forbes Bonetta. Victoria was impressed by the young princess’ high intelligence and had Sara raised in British middle class. Sara in 1862.
