A Woman of Firsts

helen richey to follow

Helen Richey was Amelia Earhart’s copilot on one flight across the Atlantic. She also was a lot of FIRSTS: first woman hired to be a pilot by a commercial airline in the United States, first woman licensed as an aviation instructor, and the first woman to fly a scheduled mail flight. To top off her brilliant career during WWII she commanded a group of women pilots for the British Air Transport Auxiliary, flying bombs between factories and airbases. She lived a pretty exciting and groundbreaking life, and ended too soon. At the age of 38 she killed herself.

House Guests

I am this girl. Each time I swim in water where the bottom is not visible there he is; Jaws waiting to nosh on my innards. Jaws knows nothing of the rules of nature. He does not know that he is anomaly that can survive in freshwater. When watching a movie that has sharks and by movie I mean even the documentaries on NatGeo I find myself lifting my legs up off of the floor, as if he has somehow made his way into my living room and is going to start chomping. Be wary of Great White house guests.
As you scoff at this remember, I am a W-O-M-A-N, giving me a license by the turn of the moon to be as irrational as I want.

This is me.  Focused on small details, quietly pure fancieness preening my chrome fins, so many little things bleeding into one another, never simple always spaghetti noodles everywhere, W-O-M-A-N mushed with quirky maddening chaos.
